Slipping away from the hustle and bustle of every day life to watch a movie on a weekday is like disappearing off the face of the earth for a little while – it is pure bliss actually. Being one of very few, if not the only person in the cinema, with popcorn and the whole shebang is a real treat. And with Oscar season in full swing, there are so many brilliant movies not to be missed.
This morning I snuck out to see The United Kingdom and honestly, I can’t remember the last time I enjoyed a film so much. I was completely entrenched from beginning to end – I cried and rejoiced and felt every emotion between.
It was a part of history I knew very little about, and even though I’ve known about the story of Seretse and Ruth, I never quite understood the hardships they went through and how remarkable they both were in the shaping of the African history.
Even though my heart was broken at times and the tears flowed freely, it was a very inspiring story – one that reiterates that we should never give up, that anything is possible and that love can indeed shape the world.
