LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION

Certain dishes are better if left overnight for the flavours to develop. One such a dish is my apple crumble – one of the few dishes in my limited repertoire, but at the same time, one that always demands seconds – even for the non-dessert types.

In preparation for a birthday party we’re hosting for one of our friends tomorrow, I peeled, sliced and diced the apples, mixed sugar and flour with butter (lots of it) for the perfect crumble and popped it into the oven. After an hour or so, the delicious sweet smell that filled the home alerted me to the fact that it was ready.

My daughter and were I both drooling for some sweet comfort topped with pouring cream, but we managed to resist…only just.

Tomorrow I’m doing some roast potatoes – also part of the limited repertoire and equally tasty, and am trying a leg of lamb – fingers crossed!

And then, after a long wait, I’ll sit down and savour the crumble that I’ve been so tempted by today, one delicious bite at a time.
