BEING OCCUPIED

IMG_2895.jpg

As I stepped out into the garden to take a phone call this afternoon, I saw these two doves on the top of the roof.

After I ended the phone call, I stayed to watching them where they were busy for a long time – talking to each other, grooming and pecking each other around the neck and head – a bird behaviour I’ve since learnt is called allopreening.

Bird watchers are kept occupied for hours on end watching these mystical creatures, and I can easily understand why – they’re absolutely fascinating.

This pair lives under the ledge of our patio, so I’ll be keeping my eyes peeled for them during the day in order for my new feathery friends and me to bond a little more.

I wonder what they’ll have to say about the strange behaviour of the human family they share a home with – I’m sure that will make for interesting blog material.
